READING
In Reading, we will review strategies to become better readers. We will also focus on certain skills throughout the year including: sequencing, plot, theme, author's purpose, cause and effect, and making inferences. During this block of time, we also practice spelling.
English
In English, we will review basic mechanics. We will also go over writing poetry, friendly letters, and essays. We will discuss using information resources (dictionary, thesaurus, index, etc.) to be able to conduct research. Our major focus will be on following the writing process to complete a LEAP-format writing prompt.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will cover topics that include regions of the United States and their characteristics; all 50 states; local, state, and federal governments; producers and consumers; natural resources, capital resources, and human resources; Civil Rights Movement; and several historical figures.
Science
In Science, we will discuss lab safety; natural disasters; the types of rocks; erosion and weathering; force and gravity; the food groups and nutrition; plants and animals; and systems in the body including the skeletal, nervous, and circulatory systems.
